Registration Information

Who needs to register?

All producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) and Batteries and Accumulators.

EEE "Producer" means any person who, irrespective of the selling technique used, including by means of “distance communication”;

  • manufactures and sells electrical and electronic equipment under his or her own brand
  • resells electrical and electronic equipment produced by other suppliers under his or her own brand
  • imports electrical and electronic equipment on a professional basis into the State
  • exports electrical and electronic equipment on a professional basis from the State to another Member State of the European Union, or
  • distributes electrical and electronic equipment from a producer who is deemed not to be registered under the provisions of article 12(2) Waste Management (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations 2005, with the exception of a person or persons exclusively engaged in the provision of financing under or pursuant to any finance agreement unless also acting as a producer within the meaning of sub-paragraphs (i) to (v);

Battery "Producer" means any person in a member state that, irrespective of the selling technique used, including by means of “distance communication”, places batteries or accumulators, including those incorporated into appliances or vehicles, on the market for the first time within the territory of that member state on a professional basis.

“Distance Communication” is as defined in Article 2(4) of Directive 97/7/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 May 1997 on the protection of consumers in respect of distance contracts or, as appropriate, means sales and marketing services by electronic communication, voice telephony services, including telesales and telemarketing or non-electronic direct marketing services, including mail order.

Producers who sell EEE and/or Batteries or Accumulators via distance selling direct to private household end users must register with WEEE Register Society Ltd.

Registration Process

When registering for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, an original and fully completed application form must be sent to WEEE Register Society Ltd.

When registering for 2010, a printed application may be submitted, or an online facility is available.

Payments for fees may be made via electronic banking and all bank details can be found in the 2009 and/or 2010 application form.  Alternatively, a Euro cheque or bank draft may be sent.

After approval WEEE Register Society Ltd. will issue a Certificate of Registration with a unique registration number. This number will not change on re-registration and must be shown on all invoices, credit notes, dispatch and delivery documents issued from 13th August 2005 for EEE registered producers, and from 26th September 2008 for Battery and Accumulator registered producers.

Reporting

As a registered producer, you will need to take responsibility for the monthly submission of the required data to the WEEE Blackbox. This data required covers the quantity and exact weight of EEE products and/or exact weight and chemistry of Batteries placed onto the Irish market.

After registration with WEEE Register Society Ltd., you must also join an approved compliance scheme, ERP Ireland or WEEE Ireland, or be self compliant.
